"Adopt A Box"
Partnering for Disaster Relief To Provide
For Children In Disaster Relief Shelters and Programs
Bright Spaces In A Box
|
| |
| Background: Bright
Spaces in a Box is part of the Emergency Relief partnership
of Bright Horizons Family Solutions, Mercy Corps, JPMorgan Chase,
and Kaplan Early Learning Company. By partnering with others,
CDEA members can provide wonderful materials and equipment and supplies
at a fraction of the cost for preschool-age children. |
|
| |
| Bright Spaces in a
Box will contain furniture, art supplies, toys, and
books and will be distributed to shelters and programs that house
young children evacuated from Hurricane Katrina, and Rita. The boxes
contain resources and guidelines for creating safe and nurturing play
areas for children in shelters or new classrooms. They are designed
to equip classrooms or shelters to serve 15-30 children at a time,
or up to 100 to 200 young children each day. These centers may be established
in shelters, religious centers or other community centers hosting
children. |
| |
| What it is: The
Bright Space in a Box consists of simple equipment to
provide children with a place to play and activities they can do while
staying at the shelter facility. For the many children who have experienced
confusing and often terrifying loss, the boxes will provide support
and comfort that is specifically designed to meet their needs. It
includes equipment and furnishings designed for heavy use. The
Bright Space Boxes are shipped with clear instructions
so they can easily be set up by a shelter staff person, volunteer,
or program director. |
